The Shape of Water

Ava Reeves

The Shape of Water is a drama/fantasy. It is about a mute, isolated woman who works as a cleaning lady at a high-security government laboratory in 1962 Baltimore. She accidentally discovers the lab’s classified secret, a merman from a foreign country. The mute woman lives in the same building as her best friend. When she finds out that the scientist was planning to murder the merman she convinces her best friend to help her break him out of the facility. The story line as the movie goes on is truly unique. The movie is truly fascinating.

The cast was perfect for their characters. Sally Hawkins, Octavia Spencer, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins are the major actors and actresses in movie. They all portray their characters perfectly. Specially Hawkins and Shannon, who made the story come to life. The film, surprisingly, had a bit of comedy in it.

Special effects were also an amazing part of the film. The effects really captured the picture. The movie won the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for best motion picture. It also won the Academy Award and BAFTA Award for best direction for Guillermo Del Toro, the movie’s director.

The film, overall, was the best this year. It was different, but in a good way. I highly recommend to everyone to see this film to gain a new perspective on love.
