Journalism– “the occupation of reporting, writing, editing, photographing, or broadcasting news or of conducting any news organization as a business.”

The word “journalism” was originally applied to the reportage of current events in printed form, but with the technology invented in the 20th century, the use of the term has broadened.

The earliest known journalistic product dates all the way back before 59 BCE in ancient Rome, the Acta Diurna. The Acta Diurna recorded their daily important events. They hung it in the most prominent places. The first regularly published newspapers appeared in German cities and in Antwerp about 1609. The first English newspaper, The Weekly News, was published in 1622. The first daily newspapers, The Daily Courant, appeared in 1702. In the 17th century, magazines started which featured opinion-forming articles.

The core of journalism has always been the news, which now involves all the current happenings in the world and what is going on on social media. Newspapers, nowadays, thrive to be more like magazines with their personality sketches and columns of comments by writers. Traditional journalism will always be the backbone of the media and news we see today.
